The problem we see
If your roof has dark black streaks running down the shingles, patches of green algae, or moss creeping along the shaded edges, you're looking at more than a cosmetic issue. Those streaks are a living organism called gloeocapsa magma - an algae that feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles - and Middle Tennessee's humidity gives it everything it needs to spread.
How we approach it
We clean roofs with soft washing, not pressure. A pressure washer on a roof strips the protective granules off shingles, voids most manufacturer warranties, and can force water up under the shingles. Soft washing uses low pressure - about what comes out of a garden hose - combined with a professional cleaning solution that kills the algae, moss and lichen at the root instead of just blasting the surface.
What to expect on the day
The difference shows up fast. Most roofs look dramatically better the same day, and the solution keeps working over the following weeks as remaining growth dies off and rinses away with normal rain. Because the growth is killed rather than smeared around, results typically last years, not months.
- Black streaks running down the shingles
- Green algae film on shaded slopes
- Moss or lichen patches, especially near tree cover
